We are hoping to develop the next generation of backflow testing experts, and are probably the best positioned company to put it together in the new American Golden Age. We consider an expert to be someone who is proficient in doing backflow testing, repairing backflow assemblies, calibrating / repairing / understanding backflow test kits, and also be able to efficiently communicate this information to others. Many of our instructors have been trained and learned the best processes to test, repair, run diagnostics, and other procedures associated with backflow assemblies and developed skills to share this knowledge with people seeking certification themselves.
You really just need an ABPA tester certification, be an ABPA member, and hold whatever local certifications are required for the area(s) that you will work in ( for example if you are an assistant instructor in Virginia, you would need the ABPA and the VADPOR backflow tester licenses both ), and be willing to travel. Travel expenses are either reimbursed or factored into your payment depending on your arrangement. Also you need to speak English at native proficiency and be able to manage a group of people, as an instructor or proctor often you are required to control a large group of people and maintain their respect through the process. We have a lot of trainings available if that is not your strong suit, many people have an instinctive fear of public speaking and things but it can be easily overcome. We don't currently have a drug testing policy, but we would prefer you not be actively fighting addictions to level 3 substances or opioid medications, or use drugs / alcohol at any time while working, I put this here because it's the construction industry and it definitely comes up, but we don't currently do any drug testing. College Education on some level would definitely help, but no formal degree is required.
Often people will perform multiple roles but we are actively hiring the below positions:
Instructor / Proctor - Already hold some level of instructor credentials and have experience as an instructor ? We can bring you on board and teach you the system pretty quickly under the supervision of the KPR team, there is an examination regarding instructing / proctoring exams / etc., you have to already be an expert and score near perfectly on written and proctor tests, and then can set you up with mockups, gauges, handouts, etc. You do need to sign a non-compete for a significant duration, and this is not designed to train you how to start your own school in the near future, but often can become a stepping stone in that process. Can already have worked for other schools, doesn't matter, but we will totally sue you if you start with us and then steal all the materials and start your own thing very quickly.
Assistant Instructor - Help do the paperwork on site and learn the instruction process as an assistant instructor, often larger classes are required to have 2 or 3 instructors on site and it helps control larger classes, designed to train for a full instructor role.
Part-Time Proctor - Some states require or prefer the person administering the exams to be someone totally different than the instructor. Many instructors have trouble failing students and maintaining the integrity of the examinations after becoming sort of friends with all of the students, so we have a part time position where you can just do exam proctoring as a part time gig and come only on the last day to proctor exams. Not available in all areas since many states require third party exams that are done by other organizations or the state itself.
Gauge Calibration Technician - Just calibrating backflow test kits. Not offered to people who aren't already instructors.
KPR Representative - Audit courses and make sure the appropriate handouts, exams, etc., are being administered per the state / local regulations and as submitted to the authorities having jurisdiction. Basically just attend classes and make sure everything is going properly.
Backflow Testers - We also offer backflow testing services in many areas, specifically if a client is getting people certified but they are not certified yet and have a bunch they need tested, or in areas that do not accept our courses or we do not have course versions actively scheduled. Often we have instructors go to a specific city or area for a class and then before during or after the class they can go out and test preventers. We only employ experts in backflow testing so generally this is a separate position from compensation perspective, but its done at the same time and scheduled by the same people.
We have 1099 style subcontractor arrangements and hourly with tax withholding arrangements available. Most instructors do the 1099 style as a complete "instruction services" package, but 1099 style is not available for the other positions, since they would not meet the IRS regulations on that. Some instructors have LLCs that they run the payments through, that doesn't really matter, but for assistant instructors and other positions it cannot be set up this way. Either arrangement is fine. There is no cash under the table positions available since we are a corporation now and there are more complex filings for things.
Just send us your resume at krugerstrainingacademy@gmail.com and we can schedule an interview. Typically you just come to a local class and we do a practical and written exam to confirm your aptitude and then discuss the compensation packages and upcoming work that is available if hired. We generally do not do background checks or drug tests, but would prefer you be up front about your background and not be on drugs or opioid medications.
